Why Should I Be Angry?

Why am I angry?

Because women are still raped

Because women are still beaten

Because women are still not expected to be sexually active (virgin mary ideal)

Because women are still expected to be sensually attractive (combined with the above)

Because discrimination still exists

Because the feminist movement seems to have died down

Because Lilith Fair no longer exists

Because in some places women can no longer have a legal (ie SAFE abortion)

And because some women are working against their own kind in order to get rid of legal (ie SAFE) abortions, instead of educating others on the problems/issues associated with abortion

Because birth control is not universally available

Because there has been no female president

Because to be a mother who works is frowned upon, both from the perspective of other mothers and people with whom the mother side associates with, and from the perspective of the work place and people with whom the worker associates with

Because there is no legislature passed yet in terms of the constitution that guarantees women the same rights as men

Because women are not expected to get along with other women ???

Because women are taught to hate other women

Because disney kills off all the mothers

Because the media puts women into two categories (the innocent victim and the heinous villain) and only one of those (rarely) has power

Because to be an angry feminist is frowned upon

Because women are still expected to be barefoot in the kitchen

Because the educational system discourages women

Because the political system discourages women

Because the religious system discourages women ???

Because more role models are needed

Because "womanly" values are often not valued

Because even I (once) frowned upon make-up and clothing and glamor and dressing as frivolous and purposeless

Because women still make less money

Because women still find more doors closed to them Because there are barriers where there should be paths

Because it is still difficult to reconcile femaleness with other aspects of one's self and one's culture

Because single working women on welfare are blamed for their situation and are constantly monitored

Because women are still underrepresented in many fields

because there are still barriers to women rising to the peaks of their professions no matter how skilled and qualified they are

Because women are taught to hate themselves, their bodies, their femininity, their passions, their values.

Because women still do not receive equal pay for equal work.
